Reel Doctor Talk

Get your Comic Con on!

by Smitha R. Chadaga MD

Those of you who read this blog are well aware of my proud nerd status.  So it will come as no surprise that in order to prepare for my first Comic Con I did some research.  And the advice I saw had some common themes:

1.  Be prepared to wait

2.  Wear comfortable shoes

3.  Use hand sanitizer

4.  Bring a water bottle

And as a doctor the one I would highlight is to bring a water bottle.  Obviously it is important to wash your hands and avoid germs, but the risk of dehydration can sneak up on you with all the excitement, lack of regular eating, good weather and (let’s face it) parties (with their alcohol).

Mild dehydration can lead to thirst, fatigue and lightheadedness.  And the feelings of lightheadedness combined with having to sit and wait for long periods of time can lead to passing out.  Which every fan at Comic Con would like to avoid.

So stay hydrated and have fun! But make sure you don’t drink TOO much water or you could end up like this.
